Investing in the Road Ahead
Following the major announcements and ambitious plans of 2024, 2025 became a year of preparation, perseverance and continued investment in the next generation of Ron Perry A19.
While some improvements are immediately visible to customers, major infrastructure projects inevitably involve a great deal of work behind the scenes.
Throughout 2025, considerable time and effort continued to be dedicated to progressing our plans for expanded HGV parking, electric vehicle infrastructure and wider improvements across our Northbound and Southbound sites.
Progress through the various planning and consultation stages has not always moved at the pace we would have hoped with various obstacles requiring navigating in the planning process. Nevertheless, our commitment to delivering these projects—and to the long-term future of both sites and driver welfare improvements—has remained unchanged.
At the same time, we continued investing in another important part of the Ron Perry business: our breakdown and vehicle recovery operation.
Continued Investment in Our Recovery Fleet
Vehicle recovery has been part of the Ron Perry story for generations, and during 2025 we continued to invest significantly in the vehicles and equipment needed to keep that operation moving forward.
Investment in our recovery fleet ensures our teams have access to modern, dependable and capable vehicles suitable for the increasingly varied demands placed upon a professional recovery operator.
From everyday breakdowns to complex recovery work and our continued support of local police recovery operations, having the right equipment is fundamental to providing a safe, efficient and dependable service.
Combined with the live on-board CCTV and monitoring technology introduced across the fleet in previous years, continued fleet investment forms part of our commitment to building a recovery operation equipped for the demands of the modern road network.
Going Beyond the Original Development
As the proposals progressed, further highways requirements were identified relating to the ingress and egress of our Northbound and Southbound sites.
Meeting these requirements represents a substantial additional investment by Ron Perry A19 and considerably expands the scope of work associated with the overall development.
However, we believe that if something is worth doing, it is worth doing properly.
Rather than viewing these works simply as an additional cost, we have chosen to see them as another opportunity to invest in the long-term future of the sites.
Improved access will help create infrastructure better suited to today’s vehicles and traffic movements while providing additional capacity for the development we intend to deliver.
Future-Proofing Ron Perry A19
Our Northbound and Southbound service stations have served motorists on the A19 for decades, but the demands placed upon roadside infrastructure continue to change.
Vehicles are changing. HGVs are changing. The way vehicles are powered is changing.
Our infrastructure must change with them.
Improving access to the sites will complement our proposed HGV parking developments, improved driver welfare facilities and planned electric vehicle charging infrastructure, while supporting our longer-term ambition to accommodate the emerging generation of electric HGVs.
These are substantial projects, and reaching the construction stage has taken longer than we originally anticipated.
We are also delighted to have signed Heads of Terms with FastNed for EV charging at the sites. There’s still a long way to go, but our philosophy remains simple: a delay to our plans does not change our plans.
Investment for Decades, Not Just Years
As a family business with a long history on the A19, our approach has always been to look beyond the immediate future.
The work undertaken throughout 2025 reflects that philosophy.
New recovery vehicles strengthen the services we provide today. Improved access infrastructure prepares our sites for tomorrow. And our continued commitment to the HGV developments, EV charging and future eHGV infrastructure is about ensuring Ron Perry A19 remains relevant to the road network for the next generation.
Not every year of progress is measured by ribbon cuttings and completed buildings.
Sometimes progress means continuing to push a project forward, working through the necessary processes and remaining committed to an investment even when reaching the starting line takes considerably longer than expected.
For Ron Perry A19, 2025 was one of those years.
The destination hasn’t changed. We’re just more determined than ever to get there.
